Norfolk’s creative community is enjoying its moment in the spotlight thanks to Head East, a regional campaign that is redefining how people experience culture across the county.
Launched by the Norfolk and Suffolk Culture Board, the initiative brings together artists, writers, musicians and heritage venues under a single banner, celebrating the region’s diverse artistic scene. From coastal sculpture trails and community choirs to immersive theatre in Norwich’s medieval streets, Head East is helping connect residents and visitors alike to the county’s creative heart.
At its core, the project also highlights the social power of creativity, supporting arts in health programmes, workshops for young people, and rural pop-up events that reach communities far from traditional galleries or theatres.
Campaign director Abbie Panks says the success of Head East proves that cultural investment delivers tangible benefits. “Every pound spent on creativity circulates back into local economies through hotels, restaurants and transport,” she explains. “But more importantly, it builds identity and confidence. Norfolk’s creativity is part of who we are.”
Events under the Head East banner will continue into 2026, including the return of the Norfolk Makers Festival, Literature Live at the Sainsbury Centre, and an expanded Brecks Arts Trail.
For Norfolk’s artists and audiences, the message is clear: you don’t need to go to London to experience world-class culture. It is right here on your doorstep.
