2022 saw record breaking temperatures in the UK: from the warmest New Year’s Day on record to the joint hottest summer ever seen since records started.
With global warming pushing temperatures higher year on year, research indicates that the UK is primed for growth in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) market.
This is great news for Spencer Hunt, owner of Orion Air Conditioning, who is focussed on providing temperature controlled comfort to homes in East Anglia.
Well-Traveled Experience
When it comes to an experienced HVAC technician in Norfolk, you really need look no further than Spencer Hunt.
Inspired to step into the industry by his Dad, who was an HVAC technician in the 1980s, Spencer started his industry apprenticeship straight from school.
In 2008, Spencer established his first business alongside a friend, which was focussed on HVAC installation for commercial businesses.
After five years of building a successful business in the UK, Spencer took his skills to Australia. In 2023, the market size in Australia is estimated to be worth a whopping $5.2 billion.
“I was able to hone my skills in Australia as there is so much demand for installation and maintenance, whilst I was also able to scratch my traveling itch,” explained Spencer, “I’m excited to bring my experience back to the UK, focussing on residential HVAC since April 2022. I wouldn’t rule out moving back to Oz, though!”
Since returning to the UK, Orion Air Conditioning has grown from strength to strength, allowing Spencer to enjoy the benefits of owning his own business.
He credits his success to his positive attitude.
“I’m always talking to people and enabling my business to grow by word of mouth. I love what I do, and when I see opportunities I take them,” he said.
A Year Round Benefit

Whilst you may think that air conditioning is only beneficial for the increasingly hot summers, it really couldn’t be more beneficial for the UK climate year round.
With insulation improving in homes, particularly in new builds, heat is finding it harder to escape – great for the winter months, not so good for the summer.
“When people buy a new build, they often consider the boiler for the winter months, but never consider the ventilation for the summer. Builders still aren’t including it in standard plans either, so there is plenty of opportunity for installation,” said Spencer.
On the flip side, HVAC can be used to heat your home as well.
“Using aircon to heat your home can be far more efficient and cost effective than using gas,” he continued.
Gone are the days of expensive and bulky-looking air conditioning units. In 2023, HVAC can be fitted for just a few thousand pounds.
“The units we see now are much more attractive and suit the aesthetic of homes,” explained Spencer.
Making a Difference
Differentiating Orion Air Conditioning from businesses working in the commercial sector, Spencer focuses solely on providing his skills to people’s homes.
“Air conditioning can change people’s home lives. From pregnant ladies that can’t get comfortable at night to older people who are struggling to affordably heat their homes. I love my job and knowing that I’m making a difference,” Spencer shared.
