In the heart of Holt, North Norfolk, The Scented Barn has become a destination for anyone who loves beautiful scents, thoughtful interiors and supporting independent businesses. Founded by Hannah Clark in 2020, the award winning home fragrance brand has grown into a popular shop on Holt’s high street.

Located at 3A Market Place, the store offers an extensive collection of hand poured home fragrances, alongside a carefully selected range of lifestyle products and gifts. For visitors, it is much more than somewhere to pick up a candle. The Scented Barn has been created as an interactive experience, allowing customers to explore different fragrances and discover scents to suit their homes and personal tastes.

The story of The Scented Barn began in 2020, when Hannah, then aged just 20, started making home fragrance products from her workshop.
Entirely self taught, she spent months experimenting with different combinations and perfecting her products before beginning to sell her first six wax melt scents online.
The response was strong, with customers quickly sharing their enthusiasm for the products. As interest grew, so did the range, expanding from wax melts into candles, home mists, diffusers and an aromatherapy collection.
Today, The Scented Barn offers more than 150 different scents, giving customers plenty of choice whether they are looking for something fresh and uplifting, warm and comforting or simply a new fragrance for their home.

The business has also attracted attention from well known publications, including Vogue and the Eastern Daily Press, helping to put Hannah’s independent brand firmly on the map.

The Scented Barn opened its first physical shop in Hoppers Yard in Holt two years after the business began. The move into a physical store gave customers the opportunity to experience the products in person, something that is particularly important for a fragrance business.
Rather than choosing a scent from a screen, visitors can smell the products for themselves, compare different fragrances and receive recommendations. The range includes hand poured wax melts, candles, room sprays and diffusers, as well as products from other independent makers.
Customers can also discover complementary lifestyle pieces, including ceramics, cushions and dried flowers, making the shop a natural stop for anyone looking to refresh their home or find a thoughtful gift.

Sustainability is another important part of The Scented Barn’s approach. The business says its wax melts are made using 100 per cent Ecosoya wax, a plant based wax that is vegan and biodegradable. Its products are also made using vegan and cruelty free fragrance oils and bases.
This focus has helped shape the brand’s identity, particularly as more consumers look carefully at the products they bring into their homes and the values behind the businesses they support.
The growth of the business has also been recognised through a number of awards. Just four months after opening its first shop, The Scented Barn was crowned Best Lifestyle Store in Norfolk at the Muddy Stilettos Awards. The award was decided through public voting, with the business receiving hundreds of votes.
The Scented Barn went on to win the title two years running and also received the Small Business Award from Theo Paphitis, known for his role on Dragons’ Den.
For a business that began with six wax melt scents, the recognition represents a significant achievement and reflects the loyal following Hannah has built around the brand.
The Scented Barn’s first shop eventually became too small for the growing business, leading Hannah to take another major step.
On 26 January 2025, the brand opened its new store at 3A Market Place in the centre of Holt. The move placed The Scented Barn in a prominent position on the town’s high street and created more space for its expanding range.
The new shop brings together the elements that have helped the business grow, from its extensive collection of fragrances to its interactive shopping experience and selection of products from independent makers.
For visitors to Holt, it offers another reason to explore the town’s independent shopping scene, while for Hannah, the new store represents the latest chapter in a business that began from a small workshop.
With its distinctive products, strong sense of personality and focus on independent retail, The Scented Barn has become part of Holt’s evolving high street. What started with just six scents has grown into an award winning Norfolk business with a much wider collection and an established presence in the town.
